California Capitol
Capital Park surrounds the Capitol. A look west toward Capitol Mall exhibits a wide variety of trees, top left. On the east side, the East Annex is framed by orange trees, top. Seville Orange and Washington Navel Orange are here. The State Capitol Park Pamphlet warns that they are not for eating - sour. Bottom left, A squirrel enjoys lunch atop a maple tree stump. This tree was one of many saplings donated from major US Civil War cites, dedicated in May 1887. Only three of the original trees remain in the Civil War Memorial Grove. The top two images are from digital negatives, the left one is a scanned 35mm slide.
