Cascade Pass Trail
Flora and Fauna
During my hike in late July, flowers were prolific. Orange and yellow Tiger Lillies dominate the group, above. Other areas host a variety of plants and flowers. Most of this growth takes place as the trail emerges from the forest, about two-thirds of the way to the pass. I saw deer and a marmot along the trail. They were difficult to photograph due to low light in the forest. I had no time to use a tripod so tried hand held shots. The result was not good. The ptarmigan, top left, was above tree line in sunlight. Easily photographed - maybe a little too much light- but it struck a great profile pose. It's wearing its summer plumage - I've not been lucky enough to see one in its winter white.
