North Cascades National Park
Sahale Arm Trail
Heading back down from Sahale Glacier, hikers have this dramatic scene spread before them . You have to stop to look because the trail is so steep you might fall on your face with one poorly placed step. The trail is visible lacing through the green hills in the bottom left and top right photos. It leads right to the bottom of Pelton basin and Cascade Pass Trail, seen on previous pages. The peak on the right side of the image, above, may be Cascade Peak. At left, Pelton Peak and Magic Mountain (with pointed peak) rise in the background. Yawning Glacier lies between the peaks. Spread Glacier is the large one on the right side of the image. The view is east, down the valley toward Lake Chelan. Lupine spreads across the hills along the trail, top left. It was the dominant flower at this elevation. These were at about 7000 ft.
