California Wildflowers
This common monkeyflower sprouted on the margin of historic Olsen Ranch meadow behind my residence. I've documented other plants here over the the last few years; this has been the only sighting of this particular species. The stem, holding the flowers, extends about 3 feet from its base. A close view highlights the details and beauty of a single blossom. An adventurous ant explores the inner area of a flower, right. Hunting for nectar?
