Creek or meadow goldenrod are appropriate names for these growing here; they flourish on a meadow margin, and beside a creek feeding into Lake Almanor. They are a common sight over North America, but the Chester area seems to have an abundance. Native Americans produced a yellow dye from the flowers. This insect collects nectar; it doesn't eat the flower.
