Plaikni Falls happens because snow melt percolates into rocky terrain
southwest of Mount Scott and rises from underground springs to flow
over this precipice as a waterfall. From here it flows southeast,
as Sand Creek, past The Pinnacles (see next section). In late July
there were plenty of floral displays around the base of the falls,
top left. A cluster of flowers, including Cascade Aster, clings
to the margin of Sand Creek's origin, above. A Sitka Columbine hides
in creekside vegetation, top right. Left, monkshood flowers perch
like bluebirds on a wire.
