A
close-up examination of the rocks on Guadalupe Peak reveals a plethora
of plant fossils embedded in limestone. These tiny plants are direct
evidence of The Guadalupe Mountains' past role as a major part of
the ancient Capitan Reef. It is one of three sections of exposed reef
in Texas and New Mexico. El Capitan, above, and Guadalupe Peak are
a piece of the reef within the park borders. Once buried, now they
reveal the ancient past. |
