Alaska Basin
Alaska Basin falls outside of the Grand Teton
National Park boundry. It jabs into the southwest side of the park
like a thumb and is part of Targhee National Forest (see map). Teton
Crest Trail exits the park near Hurricane Pass, runs south through
Alaska Basin, and reenters the park at Mount Meek Pass. This allows
park hikers to visit the basin while backpacking in the park. Hikers
can take in the basin while coming off Hurricane Pass, top left.
As you descend into the basin, you are surrounded by a great variety
of wildflowers - lupine, monkey flowers, small sunflowers, mountain
asters etc. Photos are scanned 35mm slides.
