On
my brief visit to Grand Teton late July 2009, I planned to visit areas
I'd missed in '05 and '08. The Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve was
on my list. The preserve is located on Moose-Wilson Road. Moose Wilson
Road cuts south from Teton Park Road, just west of the Thomas Visitor
Center. When I arrived, the small parking lot was full. Rangers reported
that it would be several hours before any might open. The road is
too narrow to allow parking on the side. Back north, on Moose-Wilson
road, I found a trail leading to the Death Canyon trailhead and decided
to explore for a while. Groups of flowers, left, a view of South Teton,
next, Death Canyon, top right, and possibly Buck and Wister Mountains,
right, can be taken in from this ridge top trail. |
