The
Center for Wilderness Studies program utilized many east side Sierra
passes to reach the back country. These east facing gates to the interior
are steep and rugged; but hikers gain elevation quickly - as long
as they pace themselves. The major passes we used in the 1980's and
90's; south to north: Olancha, Sheperd, Kearsarge, Baxter, Sawmill,
and Taboose. |
