Artifacts
of human existence within the current Joshua Tree National Park borders
dot the desert landscape. Native American petroglyphs lie hidden among
the boulders, far right, along the Barker Dam Trail. Ranchers and
miners arrived in the late Nineteenth Century. This original natural
pond gave ranchers a source of water constant enough to support cattle
raising. The dam, right, still looks the same as in the old photo. |
