F. Loomis took advantage of Lassen Peak's pyrotechnics during the
1914-15 period of activity. He photographed and led groups to the
area, close enough to appreciate the spectacle. He promoted the founding
of the national park and moved to Manzanita Lake in full view of Lassen
Peak. He constructed a museum to house his artifacts, and developed
a seismograph to record earth movements around the peak. The Loomis
house is now a park ranger station. The complex stands just inside
the northwest entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park. |
