This
beautiful creek is just a short hike from the Newhalem Campground.
These scenes are along the Rock Shelter Trail. The rock shelters (
see previous page ) are located on a bluff not far from this spot
where the water tumbles over rocks and settles in pools. These pools
probably produced abundant fish for the native residents. The creek
also attracted wildlife - another source of sustenance. The berries,
seen along the trail to the rock shelter, may be poisonous, but other
plants were certainly part of the food supply, clothing and implements.
Signs at the rock shelter site explain Native American life in the
area. |
