The
glacier is the subject in all three of these images. The rock outcrop,
above, is to the west, or left, of the top right view of the main
part of the glacier. The shadow of the outcrop is on the left in that
image. Sahale Peak is in the top center. Note the dark area in the
upper center of this photo. That is the ice of the glacier. The lighter
area is the snow cover. Two climbers head up the snowfield toward
Sahale Peak, right. They are climbing just above the exposed ice.
Climbers said that the glacier was easily traversed without crampons.
The peak was difficult to climb because the terrain was quite steep.
My itinerary didn't allow time to climb the glacier and peak. I had
to be far down the trail for my NPS assigned camp for the next night.
I'll return and photograph the excursion to the top in the near future. |
