Lower Elwha River
The restoration project, north of US HWY 101, is accessible to visitors. The Elwha Dam, above, was removed in early 2012. The river runs through a narrow channel on the left side of the old dam. This view is to the south, up river, at the Elwha Dam Viewpoint. A thick carpet of wildflowers covers part of the old lakebed, right. This segment of the Elwha River is not in Olympic National Park; however, the entire length of the river must be free flowing for the project to be viable.
