Wyoming
Territorial Prison State Historical Site stands near I-80, exit 311.
Built in 1872, its major claim to fame is its most famous "guest"
- Butch Cassidy. The barred windows as seen by visitors, above, and
by inmates, inside, far right. A fully set prisoner dining area with
typical prison tinware allows diners a tantalizing exterior view through
large rectangular windows, top center. |

Similar
long, rectangular windows adorn the top story of a building, constructed
as Knights of Pythias Hall, in downtown Socorro, New Mexico. The 19th
century structure is a rare example of the Italianate commercial style.
This explains the ornate crowns over each window. Socorro straddles
I-25, 70 miles south of Alburquerque, just west of the Rio Grande
River. |
