Goliad Texas
Presidio La Bahia
Fort Ross California
Czarist Russia perched Fort Ross on a northern California coast cliff in 1812. The Russian American Fur Company hunted valuable sea otter in the area. The replica 19th century glass distorts the shape of the Russian Orthodox chapel in the background, above. An undistorted view of the chapel windows, is at left. The site is a California State Park off CA HWY 1, a few miles north of Jenner.
Goliad, the county seat of the same named county, was once the home of Presidio La Bahia, a Mexican government and military establishment. It gained historical notoriety for the indiscriminate killing of Texas captives by Mexican soldiers during the Texas Revolution. The window, above, is at the church in town. The one at center is at the presidio.
