On
the Grand Loop Road south from Norris Basin, you pass Gibbon Falls,
above. It's not a great falls but worth the stop for a few shots.
It has a significant part to play in the geology of Yellowstone. It
delineates the northwest rim of the Yellowstone caldera. From Norris
Geyser Basin to Madison Junction, The Grand Loop Road follows along
the caldera rim. The flow of hot water from Grand Prismatic Spring
into the Firehole River, above right, provides good sky, steam, water
images. Grand Prismatic Spring, right, is obscured in its own steam.
This hot spring is the center piece of Midway Geyser Basin. All photos
are scanned 35mm slides. |
