The village of Bar Harbor is surrounded by Acadia National Park
on three sides - the harbor forms the fourth. The Village Green,
a great place to hang out, is the hub of the free bus transit system
linking all parts of Acadia National Park and most villages on Mount
Desert Island. I used this easy mode of travel during my visit to
the park. I had visited Bar Harbor and Acadia as a kid, so I knew
to head for the village to get camping information at the visitor
center. I learned that a bus would pick me up at any campground.
Wandering around town, I photographed a few landmarks. The fire
station, above, built in 1912, stands at the northwest corner of
the Village Green. The buoy decorated restaurant, right, on the
harbor reminds the visitor that this is still a real fishing village.
Working boats dot the harbor, top right.
