Lake Almanor - Plumas County
I spent much of May and early June, 2016, camped out in the US Forest Service campground at Lake Almanor in the northeast part of the state. The area was just finishing a wet winter and spring after several dry years. I usually search for wildflowers this time of year - see other wildflower pages on this site. I came across an apple tree in the campground, left and top right. Technically not a "wildflower," this single apple tree, in a national forest campground, must have grown from cast off seeds decades ago. I've never seen these red, elongated clusters before; possibly a type of milkvetch?
