| Various
insect species take advantage of an abundant floral display after
a heavy snow winter, and wet spring. Not only are there a broad variety
of blossoms; but also, they attract a diversity of insect nectar collectors.
Top left, and lower right; two species of bees find coyote(?) thistle
blossoms a reliable source of the sweet fluid. The unidentified beetle,
above, seems to prefer goldenrod in my neighborhood. A mysterious,
torpedo shaped, creature, top right, probes a wild pea flower; a white
lined sphinx hummingbird moth. Rare in the area except with a natural
upheaval- the Dixie Fire, 2021 was through our area. That may explain
the rare visit. |
