As
the Going-to-the-Sun Road descends the west side, it makes a hair
pin turn at The Loop. There's a shuttle stop and turnout here. There's
a good view of Heavens Peak, to the southwest. There's also an avalanche
site nearby, above. It's sobering to examine the destruction and debris
left by a snow mass hurtling down the mountain side at high speed.
This debris carved a southwest track down, on the west side of the
Going-to-the-Sun Road. The beginning of the avalanche path is on the
east side of the road. It crossed the road here. Fortunately the road
is closed in winter. |
