High
Sierra lakes retain snow and ice around their rims throughout the
summer after a heavy snow winter. On treks, with Center for Wilderness
Studies, I've seen significant snow around lakes near the high passes,
in late July and August: Baxter Lakes, west of 12,270ft Baxter Pass,
right and top left. The lakes lie around 11,000ft of elevation. Baxter
Pass allows entrance to the High Sierra on the east side from Owens
Valley. |
