These
multi-colored dunes, viewed from the top of Cinder Cone, provide a
great photographic opportunity. I carried a heavy Pentax medium format
camera up to record the scene on a larger slide. The top left image
is a scanned 6x7cm slide. The top right photo is from a scanned color
negative. It has been desaturated in Photoshop to show how the scene
would appear as a black and white print with a slight hint of sepia
tone. The left image is a scanned 35mm slide. In the top left photo,
the Fantastic Lava Beds weave past the dunes pushing south to Snag
Lake. You can also view the Painted Dunes without climbing Cinder
Cone; however, limits on foot traffic make it difficult to get a close
view. |
