Newhalem
North Cascades National Park
The community library, top left, was built in 1921 as the Old Cook's Bunkhouse. There are four original bunkhouses remaining. Old Number Six hauled construction materials and tourists 23 miles from Rockport to Newhalem from 1924 until 1954. It's on static display beside WA State HWY 20, near the Skagit General Store. Visitors can climb on and in the steam engine and ring the bell.
