Prior
to reaching Summerland, ironic name at this time, the toe of Fryingpan
Glacier had to be negotiated. Fog and light rain obscured the trail.
Fortunately spot paint dabs on exposed boulders helped guide hikers.
The ice and snow fields spread from Ohanapecosh Park, north, past
Panhandle Gap at this time- mid-September. Hikers, coming along the
trail from the north, provided a line of sight for those from the
south, and vice versa. Colorful, ground cover plants help brighten
the spirits of weary hikers, left. |
