Day three; climbing again, over Ipsut Pass, about a 2500 feet gain
from Ipsut. Mowich Lake Camp was my first resupply point, so I was
scheduled to bivouac there. Rain continued to fall during my 5 mile
trek, to Mowich. The converted dirt parking lot was a "mud"
lot. Once again I got ranger permission to move on to South Mowich
River, where there was a "leaky" shelter, according to
the ranger. Also, I'd rather hike in the rain, not standing around
the rest of the day. I hiked under forest cover, so the rain was
less penetrating. Fay Peak appeared out of the clouds, to the east,
above and top right shortly after leaving Mowich Lake. As I dropped
2350ft in 3.4 miles to Mowich River, I was cheered by Indian paintbrush
and daisies along the trail.
