I
returned to Lake McDonald in late September 2012. A large forest fire
raged about 14 miles to the southeast (see Avalanche
Lake pages). I expected to see thick smoke on the horizon. To
my surprise the scene was hazy, but not obscured. I think the low
hanging sun, behind me, in the west, directed more light to the subject.
The lack of wind helped keep the smoke down as well - not perfect
conditions, but I'll take it. A bright red mushroom competes with
fall colors near the Apgar Campground, right.
The Apgar Transit Center is the western terminus of the Going-to-the-Sun
Road. West Glacier is 2 miles farther south. |
