Choosing a sleeping spot, when you could erect a tent, allows for some flexibility. You may want to hit the trail early or just want to view the night scene, so magnificent at this altitude in the Sierra. Find a locality that protects from the wind; utilizing trees or brush when available, top left, and far left. High rocks, on Italy Pass, left, worked for me. Lee Bergthold, CWS leader, chose an open site, above.
