High Sierra								While flora flourishes in lower elevation meadows, some species find more challenging locations. Birds may be carrying seeds to these locations. The shooting star plant, top left, may have drifted to this shallow pond, or snow melt may have occurred after germination. A dry, rocky environment forces plants to sustain themselves on the moisture and minerals hidden below.
