Lunch breaks require water if possible. Usually there's a water source nearby if you're carrying very little. Even trekking the Sierra, especially in late fall, can put you in long, dry high areas with few water sources; top left, a pothole and a snow bank provided the only water source high, on 12,129ft Olancha Peak, in Inyo National Forest. A trickle of water seeps from a rock face gradually filling thirsty hikers, right. Lunch is prepared on a convenient flat rock.
