Sept. 10
- fifth day. I left Golden Lakes at 5000ft, dropped to 3600ft at North
Puyallup River, then climbed to Klapatche Park at 5400ft, covering
about eight miles. A typical day on the Wonderland Trail. Aurora Lake,
in the foreground, right, was too shallow and debris filled to get
water with a bottle to dip the liquid. Fortunately, a passing hiker
forewarned me, so I resupplied enough for that day ahead of time.
I spent the rest of the day capturing the west face of Mt Rainier
with South Mowich, Puyallup, and Tahoma Glaciers (L to R) tumbling
down the face. The next morning I got a water resupply at St Andrews
Lake. Trekked on to Devil's Dream Camp, My bivouack spot for that
night - a 9.8 mile day from Klapatche Park Camp. |
