Before
entering Joshua National Park through the North or West Entrance Station,
there's a good 3 mile round trip hike to an oasis within the park
but outside of the pay area. The Fortynine Palms Oasis trealhead is
at the end of Canyon Road. Turn south on Canyon Road, off HWY 62,
five miles west of the Oasis Visitor Center. There are two named fan
palm oases on the north side of the park; this one and Oasis of Mara
at the Oasis Visitor Center. Two more designated oases stand near
the southern border of the park. Fan palms stand tall at Cottonwood
Spring, about 2 miles southeast of the Cottonwood Visitor Center.
Lost Palms Oasis rises from a rugged canyon 3.5 miles southeast of
Cottonwood Spring. Lost Palms and Cottonwood
Spring oases are featured on other pages. |
